TPO roofing membrane

TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) roofing membrane is a popular, single-ply roofing material widely used for flat or low-slope roofs, especially in commercial and industrial buildings. TPO roofing membrane is an affordable material that combines the benefits of PVC and EPDM roofing. As a professional TPO roofing supplier and manufacture, Our products shows a superior flexibility, elongation, UV resistance, oxidation-resistance and durability compared with other suppliers.  We can produce those TPO roofing membrane in different colours, white, grey, blue and so on.  the width can customised from 1-6 meters according clients' requirement. there are few factory have this advanced technology. Our TPO roofing membrane meet the specification of ASTM-D6878 and has those unique characteristics---strong puncture resistance, good welding performance, superior weather resistance without cracking during extreme temperature, stable quality control, competitive price. which making us been one of the most reliable roofing membrane supplier in North America market from China, In general we provide three types: the normal TPO membrane, self-adhesive TPO roofing membrane and reinforced TPO roofing membrane.

Our TPO roofing membrane added light stabiliser and with no plasticiser. The reinforced type produced with a polyester layer which enhance the physical stability. You can also easily combine our products with any type of PV (photovoltaic) installation thanks to its high-temperature resistance and unmatched life expectancy.

1. Shuangshi TPO roof membrane advantages

TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) roofing membranes have emerged as one of the most versatile and high-performing roofing solutions in the commercial and industrial sectors. This innovative material successfully combines the most desirable properties of both EPDM and PVC roofing systems while offering unique benefits of its own.

One of TPO's greatest strengths lies in its ability to merge the best characteristics of EPDM and PVC membranes. Like EPDM sheet, it demonstrates exceptional weather resistance and remarkable flexibility across a wide temperature range. Simultaneously, it inherits PVC's crucial advantage of heat-weldable seams, creating superior waterproofing integrity that surpasses EPDM systems. This hybrid nature makes TPO an ideal solution for projects demanding both durability and reliable waterproofing.

From an economic perspective, TPO system presents a significant advantage over EPDM membranes. While offering comparable or even superior performance in many aspects, TPO typically comes at a 15-25% lower material cost. This cost efficiency, combined with easier installation processes, results in substantial savings for building owners without compromising on quality or longevity.

The reflective properties of TPO membranes provide another major benefit. Standard white or light-colored TPO roofs can reflect up to 85% of solar radiation, significantly reducing cooling costs in warm climates - a feature that has become increasingly valuable with rising energy prices. Understanding that architectural requirements vary, our company offers custom colour options to meet specific aesthetic or functional needs of our roofing construction friends.

TPO's heat-welded seam technology deserves special mention. When properly installed, these seams create molecular bonds stronger than the membrane itself, virtually eliminating the risk of seam failure - a common issue in mechanically fastened systems. This welding capability, combined with the material's inherent flexibility, allows TPO roofs to accommodate structural movements without compromising waterproofing integrity.

Additional advantages include excellent resistance to UV radiation, chemicals, and microbial growth. TPO is also environmentally friendly, being both recyclable and free of chlorine and plasticisers. Its lightweight nature reduces structural load requirements. With its balanced combination of performance, affordability, and sustainability, TPO roofing continues to gain popularity across diverse commercial applications.

2. Shuangshi reinforced and non reinforced TPO membrane-----How to choose single-ply TPO roofing, the reinforced or non-reinforced TPO membrane?

When you between reinforced and non-reinforced TPO membranes, understanding their differences is crucial for optimal roof performance.

1. Manufacturing Differences

Shuangshi reinforced TPO membranes feature an internal polyester scrim layer sandwiched between TPO layers. This reinforcement adds structural integrity by no yield to flexibility. The traditional Non-reinforced TPO consists of homogeneous TPO material without this strengthening layer, making it less resistant to mechanical stresses.

2. Performance Advantages of Reinforced TPO

The reinforcement TPO roofing provides three key benefits:

  • Enhanced tear resistance (up to 300% stronger than traditional non-reinforced TPO roofing)

  • Superior wind uplift resistance (critical for large roofs)

  • Improved dimensional stability (reduces shrinkage by 50-70%)

  • Better puncture resistance (essential for high-traffic roofs)

3. Ideal Applications

Reinforced TPO is particularly suited for:

  • Large industrial facilities

  • Buildings in high-wind regions (>90 mph wind zones)

  • Roofs with frequent maintenance traffic

  • Structures requiring >30 year service life

4. Our Recommendation

For industrial and metal buildings, we strongly recommend reinforced TPO despite its 10-15% higher material cost. The long-term benefits outweigh the initial investment:

  • 30% longer lifespan than non-reinforced

  • 60% lower maintenance costs

  • Better warranty terms from manufacturers

For projects where budget are absolute limited and traffic is minimal, non-reinforced may suffice. However, for most commercial applications, reinforced TPO delivers superior value over the roof's lifetime.

3. Shuangshi full adhesive type and smooth type TPO sheet ---according to Installation Methods

A complete TPO roof system typically comprises three essential layers: first a vapor retarder or air barrier (if needed) to prevent moisture penetration, followed by an insulation layer for thermal efficiency, and finally the TPO membrane as the waterproofing surface.

Our company provides multiple TPO membrane options to accommodate different installation requirements. There are three principal installation techniques available:

  1. Fully Adhered System

This method involves bonding the entire membrane to the substrate using specialized adhesives. It creates an extremely stable roof assembly that performs exceptionally well in high-wind conditions and is ideal for buildings requiring maximum wind uplift resistance.

   2.Mechanically Attached System

In this approach, the membrane is secured using corrosion-resistant fasteners and plates. This cost-effective solution is particularly suitable for projects with budget limitations or where adhesive application may be problematic.

   3.Ballasted (Welded) System

The membrane is loosely laid and welded at all seams, then held in place by ballast materials such as pavers or gravel. This method is commonly specified for flat roofs with minimal slope requirements.

Critical installation considerations include:

  • Mandatory Seam Welding: All TPO membrane seams must be professionally heat-welded, regardless of the primary installation method. This creates a continuous, monolithic waterproofing layer that significantly enhances the roof's performance and longevity.

  • Proper Substrate Preparation: TPO membranes should never be installed directly over concrete or other porous substrates. Concrete naturally retains moisture, which can migrate through the system, potentially causing membrane blistering, adhesive failure, or premature degradation. A properly installed vapor retarder and insulation layer are essential to prevent these issues.
