Reinforced TPO membrane for wind uplift resistance.

Project Location: Dalian, China

Project Type: Coastal Industrial Facility

Roofing System: Reinforced Full-Adhesive TPO Roofing System

TPO Thickness: 60 mil (1.50mm)

Adhesive Used: 808 Neoprene-Based Contact Adhesive

Installation Year: 2015

Performance Status: Excellent (No wind uplift, no leakage, no seam failure)

The requirement of owner:

The client is a large manufacturing facility located in Dalian, a coastal city in northern China known for its strong seasonal winds and humid maritime climate. Because the factory building sits close to the shoreline, the roof faces repeated high wind pressure, salt-laden moisture, and conditions ideal for algae growth.

The customer required a roofing system that could deliver:

  • Exceptional wind uplift resistance

  • Long-term waterproofing without seam failures

  • Resistance to algae and microbial growth due to the humid coastal environment

A stable, durable membrane capable of withstanding constant temperature changes and UV exposure

Our solutions:

After evaluating the environmental conditions and the roof structure, we recommended a Reinforced Full-Adhesive TPO Roofing System, combining:

  • The thicker membrane enhances tensile strength and puncture resistance.

  • The internal scrim reinforcement significantly improves wind uplift performance.

  • The TPO formulation provides inherent resistance to algae growth, especially critical for coastal roofs.

808 Neoprene-based adhesive(from our partner)

  • Excellent bonding strength, essential for full-adhesive systems in high-wind areas.

  • Stable performance even under temperature fluctuations and coastal humidity.

  • Additional chemical resistance helps prevent algae and microbial attachment.

  • Creates a continuous bond between the TPO membrane and the substrate.

  • Eliminates voids where wind could enter and lift the membrane.

  • Provides maximum stability against negative wind pressure.

Project overcome(2015-Present)

Now, years after the installation, the system has shown outstanding long-term performance:

  • Zero wind-uplift incidents despite several severe coastal windstorms

  • No membrane detachments or fluttering

  • All seams remain tight and structurally sound

  • No water infiltration across any section of the roof

  • No significant algae or microbial growth observed

  • Minimal maintenance required, with only routine inspections recommended

The client has reported their satisfaction, stating that the roofing system has significantly reduced their maintenance concerns and provided long-term reliability in a demanding coastal environment.
